It does not have a top/down RTS functionality as its main venue of gameplay, rather the developers created a way to have these RTS mechanics in a 3D world while. BZ1 is substantially more true to the playstyle that was intended by Activision for Battlezone, while BZ2 has a much stronger RTS element to it that kind of swings the balance back towards games like SC2 and Age of Empires. Battlezone: Combat Commander is just the latest item that makes it hard to deny there's a wave of nostalgia in entertainment these days. Just like Rogue Trooper Redux and the recent Age of Empires remaster, the focus has been almost entirely on upgrading visuals instead of the gameplay.
